Meet Joe Buchman

July 27th, 2008 by Shane

This week Jonathan and I interviewed Dr. Joe Buchman of Utah’s 1st district where he is running for Congress.  He was kind enough to come on and talk about libertarianism and his campaign.   The conversation took a unexpected turn when Joe brought up extraterrestrials.  What Joe Buchman has done with libertarianism and the view of the cosmos is perhaps the best example of a consisent outlook on life and his poltical beliefs.  Far from being a “kook”, like many in the press might be wont to present him as, Joe is in fact a true and honorable believer in the concept of non-aggression.

We can’t wait to have Joe on again (and he will be after his trip to Mongolia and China).

Also, new this week, the site has a new look.  My wife Kelly was kind enough to put together a logo and color scheme that I think for the most part works.  I might tweak the background a little, but I don’t expect a lot of changes.

Next week, we have scheduled William “BJ” Lawson from North Carolina’s 4th district scheduled.  I think it will turn out to be a very interesting interview.

As a member of the LDS Church I was impressed with Buchman’s accuracy in his comments regarding my faith.

My BA graduation announcements were nontraditional and announced that I had become a Libertarian. Unfortunately many of my Mormon friends confused the term with Liberal, and accused me of becoming a Democrat.

Latter Day Saints are predominately Republican. However, a significant majority of LDS have the attitude that they are only voting for the lesser of two evils. I strongly feel many LDS would vote libertarian if they understood that its ideology is much more aligned with our faith’s than the Republican Party.

  2. Joe Buchman Says:

    Nathan,

Welcome to the Libertarian PARTY! As Steve Kubby, one of our Presidential candidates, said at the Denver convention, this is the party of FUN. Why? Because of the joy that comes from knowing you’re vote, and your stand, is one for freedom, free-agency and peace.

The other parties, in my view, are at some level, a vote for slavery.

    Joe
