The libertarian Dime – Episode 73 – On Non-Aggression

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan were once again joined by Dr. Joe Buchman to discuss the non-aggression plank of the Libertarian Party platform as well as the libertarian principle of non-aggression. The discussion covered what non-aggression meant to each of the participants, how it might apply to the recent heath insurance mandates, how it applies to our treatment of animals, how it applies to foreign policy, and how it might possibly apply to contact with extra-terrestrials. There is no other libertarian podcast that covers this topic like The libertarian Dime. Also of note, when Shane wanted to make clear that Dr. Joe’s statement on healthcare wasn’t a “screw the poor” stance, Dr. Joe got riled up and explained passionately how deeply he cares about helping the poor, and he simply rejects the big government hammer being used now.

The Dime – Episode 1 – Sasquatch!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan made good on their promise of branching out into other topics every four shows. Billy Willard of the Sasquatch Watch of Virginia as well as Sasquatch Watch Radio joined the show to talk about Sasquatch and the community around it. This was not a discussion about the existence of Sasquatch, but about the people on the ground doing the work. Billy provided information about a number of interesting sightings and showed the podcast audience how sincere and honest the Bigfoot community is.

If you’re interested in Bigfoot, or even if you’re skeptical of Bigfoot, you’ll enjoy this show for it’s frank and honest discussion about Bigfoot.

As we talked about on our first return show, every fourth show or so, will not be about politics, as Jonathan and I have decided we needed some outlet to avoid burnout and to satisfy our curiosity. We’re simply calling these shows “The Dime”. This week we welcome Billy Willard from the Sasquatch Watch of Virginia as well as Sasquatch Watch Radio. I’ve been been a big fan of his show, and we’re both grateful that he’s coming on this week to talk Sasquatch and the culture around it.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 71 – On Education

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan were joined by Dr. Joe Buchman, a long time friend of the show, to talk about education. Recently the doctor had the oppurtunity to see a movie called “Waiting for Superman” at this year’s past Sundance Film Festival.

“For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians’ promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.” – from sundance.bside.com

What followed was an open and honest talk about education from the perspective of libertarians, and how the desire to see privatization of education is out of real concern for children and not selfish gains. Dr. Joe Buchman brought his usual thoughtfulness combined with his experience in the educational industry to the Dime and fostered an informative look at how we can save the future of our kids.

Upcoming Show Tonight (2010-03-04)

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Jonathan and I continue to thank our listeners, who continued to listen to the show after our return. We can’t thank you all enough. Last week our discussion of healthcare and insurance was about as honest and informative as you’ll ever hear. This week, we are joined by long time friend of the show, Dr. Joe Buchman, to talk about education from a libertarian perspective. Once again, we will be as honest and frank as we can be, to really explain what libertarians really want in an education system, and dispel some of the misconceptions.
