The libertarian Dime – Episode 85 – Meet Tim Cavanaugh

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan had the pleasure of interviewing Tim Cavanaugh from Reason. The interview, actually more like a discussion, covered a lot of topics in the world of libertarianism. Topics ranged from Ron Paul to veganism to the implications of a reconstituted Neanderthal man. An interesting show about the world of libertarianism that will interest anyone who is a fan of punching the monkey, Reason.com or even the The libertarian Dime.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 84 – Countdown to TAM!

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

(Never got around to posting this, but it was a fun episode anyway!)

This week Shane and Jonathan took a moment or two or three, to talk about TAM before talking about libertarianism in culture. A pretty interesting show for libertarians and Rush (the band) fans everywhere.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 82 – Dual Personalities

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

This episode of The libertarian Dime was an experiment that Shane & Jonathan tried due to scheduling conflicts. They each recorded a segment without knowing what the other one was talking about, and in fact, neither will have hear the others segment until the show is released. Production of this episode was also delayed due to technical problems that have been resolved. You won’t want to miss this experiment in libertarian podcasting.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 81 – Whose Katrina Is It?

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

This week it was just Shane and Jonathan, and without any sort of plan, ended up discussing for a while the recent BP spill. They talked about the libertarian approach to offshore drilling, which some people might be surprised to know isn’t about just letting BP dump oil into the Gulf. They discussed in depth a recent Rollingstone Magazine article that paints a pretty negative picture of both Bush and Obama, casting doubt that there was any real change in the MMS department despite tough talk. The BP spill might be Obama’s Katrina and worse. In addition, they talked about the ethics of euthanizing oil laden animals who even after cleaning, will have extremely low survival rates. Lastly, they talked about the upcoming skeptics conference, The Amaz!ng Meeting 8, July 8 – July 11, in Las Vegas.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 80 – Busting Unions

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

This week, The libertarian Dime turned it’s, well, libertarian eye, to unions. Shane and Jonathan, once again joined by Josh Brady, talked about how unions and their cozy relationship with government has done more damage than good lately. While acknowledging the accomplishments of the past and recognizing the right of workers to freely associate, the show focused mainly on those times when government and unions have teamed up, such as with public sector unions, teacher’s unions, and the quid pro quo’s that happen when unions donate lots of money to political campaigns. Also, they touched upon Rand Paul’s clueless remarks about the Civil Rights Act.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 80 – Busting Unions

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

On tonight’s episode, Shane and Jonathan will be discussing unions. From the automobile industry to the teamsters, we will be discussing how unions are not only detrimental to the free market, but also do not ultimately protect the workers. This has always been a hot issue in America since unionization began, and even more so now, given the recent bail-out of the automotive industry.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 79 – Immigration

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

This week Shane & Jonathan were joined by Josh Brady to discuss immigration. This is a hot-button issue in the media, and with practically everyone in this country, with cities boycotting each other, states trying to pass legislation that is stricter than federal guidelines toward immigration, and tension rising across the country because of this very polarizing issue. They talked about it from all sides, looked at the Arizona law, and even took a caller from Arizona for her perspective on the new law from the ground. The guys also touched upon “Draw Mohammad Day” and it’s impact on free speech.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 79 – Immigration

Thursday, May 20th, 2010
On tonight’s episode, Shane and Jonathan will tackle the topic of immigration. This is a hot-button issue in the media, and with practically everyone in this country, with cities boycotting each other, states trying to pass legislation that is stricter than federal guidelines toward immigration, and tension rising across the country because of this very polarizing issue.

We will take time to look at both sides of the issue, the repercussions of tightening or even closing our borders to people wanting to come into our country, and even look at how the free market might be able to straighten out the issue. No matter where you stand on the issue, you’ll definitely want to listen to tonight’s broadcast of The Libertarian Dime.
