The libertarian Dime – Episode 71 – On Education

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan were joined by Dr. Joe Buchman, a long time friend of the show, to talk about education. Recently the doctor had the oppurtunity to see a movie called “Waiting for Superman” at this year’s past Sundance Film Festival.

“For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians’ promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.” – from sundance.bside.com

What followed was an open and honest talk about education from the perspective of libertarians, and how the desire to see privatization of education is out of real concern for children and not selfish gains. Dr. Joe Buchman brought his usual thoughtfulness combined with his experience in the educational industry to the Dime and fostered an informative look at how we can save the future of our kids.

Upcoming Show Tonight (2010-03-04)

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Jonathan and I continue to thank our listeners, who continued to listen to the show after our return. We can’t thank you all enough. Last week our discussion of healthcare and insurance was about as honest and informative as you’ll ever hear. This week, we are joined by long time friend of the show, Dr. Joe Buchman, to talk about education from a libertarian perspective. Once again, we will be as honest and frank as we can be, to really explain what libertarians really want in an education system, and dispel some of the misconceptions.

We can be found live tonight via TalkShoe here:

Upcoming Episode 70

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

We would like to thank all our listeners who downloaded our recent return episode. Jonathan and I were both pleasantly surprised by the immediate interest. Both of us hope that everyone found our first show back, a real nice listen and something you can learn from.

This week, Jonathan and I will be joined by Josh Brady who is a small business owner in Nashville, TN to discuss health care. It won’t be a political discussion, but instead an examination of the whole concept of health care, health insurance, personal responsibility and what free marketers actually want to see happen. For some it might be old hat, but we hope that we create a real primer for people for future health care discussions.

We’ll be streaming live via TalkShow at this link: http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/20976. Feel free to email us at thedime [at] ldnetwork [dot] tv.

Hope to hear from you all!

The libertarian Dime – Episode 69 – The Return

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Shane and Jonathan returned to podcasting with this episode and talked about why they came back. As they explained, the podcast from now on will take on less of a day to day cage match type look at politics, but instead will explain and investigate the libertarian philosophy and how it relates to culture, human rights, animal rights, science, etc. This first episode focused on explaining a few fallacies about libertarianism. A great return to podcasting all around!

We’re Back

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I didn’t think I’d be writing this, but to be quick, the podcast is back. Jonathan and I have decided that we had something pretty good going and what we really needed was a long break. So next Thursday, February 18th, we return with The libertarian Dime. The small ‘l’ is intentional to convey a slight change in focus from the previous incarnation. We will focus less on the politics of the day and more about libertarian ideas on human rights, animal rights, culture, science, etc. Also, every 4th show, we will do a “free form” show, simply called “The Dime”, where we will do shows about any topic we feel interested in. We could have a famous video game designer on, or we could be talking to one of the hoaxers behind the 2008 Georgia Bigfoot hoax.

I hope we can regain the traction and audience we had before and even build on it. My last post did sound a little down on the show, but I think since then, after we had a continued stream of downloads, I looked back with a much more positive view on the podcast. With this long break, we hope to make improvements to the show and reach new heights.

Look for a new episode next weekend!

Maybe you have found a way to thrive and flourish, either as a person or a company, without hindrance.

Tell us your stories! Give us your thoughts! We will give you the forum!

If you are interested in writing for the LD Network, please contact us at thedime@ldnetwork.tv

Episode 68: Time Travel & the End

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

This week, in a complete departure, the Libertarian Dime had on Bob Otis, time travel researcher and author.

As evidenced by countless books, TV shows and movies, including Star Trek and Quantum Leap, we’re all fascinated by the prospect of time travel and exploring other eras. How close is science to making it possible? And, if we mastered time travel, what could we discover about other ages and peoples? What might we change in history? What might we regret? And where in time would we go first?

Time travel researcher Bob Otis explores such questions about unlocking the secrets to time travel in his fascinating new book, A TESTIMONY OF LIONS.

This was the final episode of the Libertarian Dime as well. Thanks so much for everyone’s support over the last sixteen months.

Episode 67 – Back to Three

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

This past week, for the first time in two months, the Dime planned not to have any guests. Shane, Jonathan and Mike started a round table discussion on current events, the Libertarian Party, and how the two intersect. Later, a listener from the UK rang to discuss government oppression and the conversation drifted into whether 9/11 and 7/7 were inside jobs (they weren’t btw). An interesting show for sure!
