The libertarian Dime – Episode 75 – Idiotic Government

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Initially Shane & Jonathan were going to discuss drug prohibition, but instead turned to the topic of “Idiotic Government.” In this episode, they talked about the government’s needless meddling in airline fees, the government’s waste of money in promoting “alternative medicine”, and other government wastes of time. It made for a lively show that’s for sure!

The libertarian Dime – Episode 74 – On The Separation of Church and State

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Sorry for this lateness, but…

This week Shane and Jonathan had a far reaching discussion on the libertarian approach to the concept of separation of church and state. Covering gay rights, abortion, school prayer, the teaching of evolution in school, and government funding of religious institutions, they showed why a libertarian society should have a complete and utter separation of church and government. Also near the end, Shane talked about the need for extremely responsible personal healthcare in light of the recent Health Care Insurance Reform “Reform” bill that was recently passed.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 73 – On Non-Aggression

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan were once again joined by Dr. Joe Buchman to discuss the non-aggression plank of the Libertarian Party platform as well as the libertarian principle of non-aggression. The discussion covered what non-aggression meant to each of the participants, how it might apply to the recent heath insurance mandates, how it applies to our treatment of animals, how it applies to foreign policy, and how it might possibly apply to contact with extra-terrestrials. There is no other libertarian podcast that covers this topic like The libertarian Dime. Also of note, when Shane wanted to make clear that Dr. Joe’s statement on healthcare wasn’t a “screw the poor” stance, Dr. Joe got riled up and explained passionately how deeply he cares about helping the poor, and he simply rejects the big government hammer being used now.

The libertarian Dime – Episode 71 – On Education

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

This week Shane and Jonathan were joined by Dr. Joe Buchman, a long time friend of the show, to talk about education. Recently the doctor had the oppurtunity to see a movie called “Waiting for Superman” at this year’s past Sundance Film Festival.

“For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians’ promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.” – from sundance.bside.com

What followed was an open and honest talk about education from the perspective of libertarians, and how the desire to see privatization of education is out of real concern for children and not selfish gains. Dr. Joe Buchman brought his usual thoughtfulness combined with his experience in the educational industry to the Dime and fostered an informative look at how we can save the future of our kids.

This week, we are joined by long time friend of the show, Dr. Joe Buchman, to talk about education from a libertarian perspective. Once again, we will be as honest and frank as we can be, to really explain what libertarians really want in an education system, and dispel some of the misconceptions.

Upcoming Episode 70

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

We would like to thank all our listeners who downloaded our recent return episode. Jonathan and I were both pleasantly surprised by the immediate interest. Both of us hope that everyone found our first show back, a real nice listen and something you can learn from.

This week, Jonathan and I will be joined by Josh Brady who is a small business owner in Nashville, TN to discuss health care. It won’t be a political discussion, but instead an examination of the whole concept of health care, health insurance, personal responsibility and what free marketers actually want to see happen. For some it might be old hat, but we hope that we create a real primer for people for future health care discussions.

We’ll be streaming live via TalkShow at this link: http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/20976. Feel free to email us at thedime [at] ldnetwork [dot] tv.

Hope to hear from you all!

The libertarian Dime – Episode 69 – The Return

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Shane and Jonathan returned to podcasting with this episode and talked about why they came back. As they explained, the podcast from now on will take on less of a day to day cage match type look at politics, but instead will explain and investigate the libertarian philosophy and how it relates to culture, human rights, animal rights, science, etc. This first episode focused on explaining a few fallacies about libertarianism. A great return to podcasting all around!
